They are close relatives with different mechanics. Journaling asks you to retrieve several things and put them into words, which produces a record you can read back and which suits people who think by writing. Meditation asks you to stay with one thing without producing anything at all, which suits people for whom a blank page reads as a demand. They fail differently too: journaling goes stale and slides into comparison, while sitting tends to fail by drifting or by boredom before the feeling lands. Many people use both, and it is worth knowing which one you are reaching for and why.
