Can meditation help men with stress, anger, or focus?
These are the three reasons men most often give for starting, and the honest answer is yes with a condition attached. Practice does not remove strong feeling. It trains you to notice a state earlier, which buys a gap between the thing happening and your response to it, and that gap is where the control lives. The same attention training carries over to focus. The condition is targeting: “stress” covers several different states, and the practice that helps a revved nervous system is not the one that helps a depleted one, so the noticing has to come first.
